Victoria lies in the most south-eastern corner of Australia and is bounded by South Australia on the west and New South Wales on the north. It is the smallest state on the mainland and occupies a total territory of 227 600 sq km. About one-third of the state is covered with forests and the densest one are in the eastern part. It also has an 1800km-long coastline which separates it from Tasmania on the south. The coastline is mainly rugged, but there are wide sandy beaches and three harbours, the most important of which is Port Philip Bay. In Victoria there are mountains as well, which highest peaks are Mount Bogong (1986km) and Mount Feathertop (1922 m). Victoria can be proud with its mineral springs of Macedon Ranges and Spa Country, world-famous wineries in the Yarra Valley and alpine towns in the High Country. You can enjoy the city life in Melbourne, walk on the trails through the Grampians, visit the old goldfields or just drive along the Great Ocean Road.

The population of Victoria is about 4.5 million people most of whom live in Melbourne (3.2mln), which is the second largest city in Australia after Sydney and Victoria’s capital.
