Victoria is located within a warm, moderate climate zone, but the temperatures sometimes vary widely. The summers are usually warm and dry and the winters – mildly cool and wet. The temperatures during the summer in the coastal parts are about 14° - 23° C, in the mountains around 11° - 20° C and in the inner parts from 16° to 31° C. During the winters the temperatures are from 7° C to 14° C in the coasts, 0° C to 5° C in the mountains and 5° C to 16° C in the inner lands. There is also snow on the north-east mountains from June to September.
There is heavy rainfall in the eastern and western parts of the state with annual rainfall of about 1000 mm. The rainfall is lowest in the Mallee region, where the medium is 327 mm.
