While you are in Victoria, Australia, and you have taken the pleasure of driving down the Great Ocean Road, do not just drive through the road, make sure you stop over at Port Campbell to a better view of the coastline scene. Stopping at Port Campbell will also afford you to be able to visit two wonderful tourist destinations- Port Campbell National Park and the 12 Apostles.
Port Campbell is a town of retreat that is situated on the edge of wild nature being sheltered by cliffs and Norfolk pines. There are bakeries that will supply you with goodies whose taste is comparable to what you will bet in homemade pastas, galleries and shops are there to visit, and you can enjoy great meals from the restaurants and cafes that are located in such a way that you will still be having a good view of the ocean while enjoying your meal.
You cannot get a better view of the 12 Apostles from any other place than Port Campbell. The 12 Apostles are the stacks of rock that goes above the level of the ocean and they are an adorning beauty for the ocean around here. It is possible to take a boat tour round them to have a close look of the gigantic size of these rocks or you can go on the air to catch a glimpse.
Other features that beautify the coast in Port Campbell are Loch Ard Gorge, Gibson Steps and the Bay Islands. You can get to see the gorges on the sea floor by a dive tour and visit the caves, stacks and arches in the area through boat tours.
Things you can do at Port Campbell include going on saddled horse rides at Blazing Saddles Trail Rides which offers one of the best beach and bush horse riding experiences in Victoria with its wide variety of horses. Also, to can opt for a walking tour either guided or self guided on the Great Ocean Road, Great Alpine, Grampian Hike and Victoria High Country. Taking surf lessons is easy while in Port Campbell. You can also try out snorkeling, kayaking to the seals, rock pool rambles and many other attractions.
Places of interest you can visit in Port Campbell include:
- The Arches Marine Sanctuary, the area that goes 20 meters off the shore in Port Campbell that has limestone seafloor that breaks up into a series of canyons, arches and tunnels;
- 12 Rocks Café and Beach Bar offer the sparkling view of the ocean while providing the luxury of a dynamic bar at the same time;
- Twelve Apostles Marine National Park which is the second largest Marine National Park in Victoria and where you will get most of the underwater scenery of Victoria;
- Waves Café for friendly menus all day;
- Port Campbell National Park, a place that is famous for historic shipwrecks and the 12 Apostles. This is where the native vegetation and fauna of south western Victoria can be found.
